It’s Strawberry Time at Hinton’s!

Strawberry Pie Eating Contest

Strawberries are ready at Hinton’s Orchard!  Although we had to wait a little longer this spring, the taste of the berries is definitely worth the wait!  Sweet and yummy!  We are picking berries everyday and U pick is also available each day.  Market hours are Monday – Saturday 9 am – 6 pm.

Strawberry Pie Eating Contest

This Saturday, June 1st, is the annual Strawberry Festival at Hinton’s Orchard.  It’s the height of strawberry season, so that is all the reason that we need to throw a party! Come for a fun day on the farm to pick your own strawberries, take a hayride, pick out some plants from our greenhouse, and enjoy some time in Hinton’s FarmLand play area. You can even participate in the annual Strawberry Pie Eating Contest at 1 p.m.! Hinton’s Kitchen will be serving up great treats like strawberry ice cream, strawberry shortcakes, Orchard BBQ, hamburgers, hot dogs, and more.   We hope to see you Saturday for great fun!

Strawberry Festival Postponed Until June 1

strawberry

Just as spring temperatures have been slow to arrive, so is our spring produce.  Strawberries are running behind our normal schedule  and so the annual Hinton’s Orchard Strawberry Festival that was originally scheduled for May 18 must be postponed until June 1.  We want to ensure that there are plenty of berries for everyone to pick and enjoy on festival day.

There will be strawberries for sale prior to the festival, but we schedule the event for the height of our season.  We anticipate beginning to pick strawberries about May 20.  As long as the sun shines and we don’t have too much rain!

It’s Fall, Y’all!

apples

With cooler days and nights, fall is beginning here at Hinton’s Orchard.  The market still has several “summer” vegetables — tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, sweet corn, cantaloupe & watermelon — but apples and pumpkins are now taking center stage.  You should find at least 5 varieties of apples to choose from any day.  We are also picking pumpkins and gourds almost everyday to stock your fall displays.

The market also has fresh baked bread, fresh squeezed apple cider, homemade caramel apples, and beautiful mums to get you in the fall spirit.

Fall hours are Monday – Saturday 9 am – 6 pm & Sunday 1 – 6 pm.  Stop by and see us today!

Peaches & Vegetables

Peaches

Summer time is in full swing at Hinton’s Orchard & Farm Market.  Peaches are the main fruit in the market this time of year along with some apples, cantaloupes and watermelons.  A full selection of vegetables is also available: squash, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, sweet corn, and plenty of tomatoes.  Don’t forget to try some of Hinton’s famous peach ice cream during your visit!

Peaches should be available through the month of July.  The quantity of apples will increase closer to Labor Day and maintain through September & October.  Summer vegetables should continue into September and cooler weather crops like cabbage and broccoli will also be available through the fall.

Plan a visit to the farm or a Hinton’s farmer’s market location.  The market at Hinton’s Orchard is open 7 days a week:  Monday – Saturday 9 am – 6 pm and Sunday 1 – 6 pm.  You can find product from Hinton’s at the LaRue County Farmer’s Market on Tuesday & Friday from 2 – 5:30 p.m., the Hardin County Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 7:30 – noon, and the Taylor County Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

June at Hinton’s Orchard

June has arrived at the farm.  The market has lots of fresh, local vegetables to choose from: squash, zucchini, cucumbers, new potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, and more.  All greenhouse plants and flowers are 25% off, so be sure to stop by and see what your house is missing!  Sweet corn, June apples, and juicy peaches will arrive soon!

2012 Strawberry Festival

It’s time to enjoy Hinton’s annual Strawberry Festival!  As our first festival of the year, the day will be filled with U pick strawberries, our annual pie eating contest (adult and child divisions), Hinton’s famous strawberry ice cream and other strawberry treats, play time in Hinton’s FarmLand, and other special strawberry fun.  Our greenhouse will be filled with herbs, flowers, and vegetable plants to get your own spring planting underway.

Due to the early spring weather, Hinton’s Strawberry Festival is being held earlier than usual this year — on Kentucky Derby Day, Saturday, May 5th.  To celebrate Kentucky’s big race, in addition to our strawberry fun, we will also have a “Run for the Berries” stick horse race (adult and child divisions) and Hinton’s own “Horse Race Pie” on hand.  Bring your own horse for the race or create one after you arrive at the farm.

The Strawberry Pie Eating Contest will begin at 1 p.m. with the Run for the Berries to follow at 1:30.

Market hours are 9 am – 6 pm with festival activities from 11 am – 3 pm.  Come party with us before your Derby party.  You will be a hit if you bring fresh strawberries!
